Safe sex isn’t always safe: Pearl Index

SOMETIMES YOUNG LADIES WONDER how some people could get pregnant regardless of the fact that they use a form of contraceptives.

This can happen.

Many contraceptives can fail, even when they are being used consistently and correctly, thereby resulting in an unintended pregnancy.

No be today we begin hear say condom burst during nacks.

😂😂

Some babes go take Postinor2 correctly and within 72 hours of the nacks, yet belle go still enter.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wahala no too much??

A reliable measure for estimating the failure rate of these contraceptives is called the PEARL INDEX, which is measured in 100 woman years.

Let me explain better.

Since it is already established that no contraceptive has a 100% effectiveness for every one over the course of one year, we try to find out the extent to which each method of contraceptive can fail, thereby resulting in pregnancy – this is what is known as PEARL INDEX.

Let me cite an example. The Pearl Index (PI) of the popular male condom is 2 per 100 woman years. Or simply 2 (I don’t want to talk about the typical and perfect users).

This means that if 100 women who have regular menses use only condom to have sex for one year, out of the 100 women, 2 will still get pregnant anyways.

🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

While many Naija single or married babes don’t like other methods of contraception, a lot of them have a better Pearl Index than condoms.

Implanon, an implant type of contraceptive, has a PI of 0.05. This means that it will take up to 10,000 women to use it for one year before 5 of them will be pregnant; or simply 1 in 2,000 women.

The PIs of other contraceptives are:

~ Mirena = 0.2 or 1 in 500

~ Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills = 0.3 or about 1 in 300

~ Progesterone-only pills = 0.3 or 1 in 300

~ Female sterilization or bilateral tubal ligation (what you call tying of tubes) = 0.5 or 1 in 200

~ Then, male sterilization or vasectomy = 0.05 or 1 in 2000

Now you can see that these ones are far better at preventing pregnancy than condoms, but na condoms sure pass, because they are easily available and affordable.

😂😂😂😂

So if you are using condoms, sha know say belle fit still enter. E no get how. It is not common, but it is not impossible.

For people like us that don’t like nacks, we won’t bother.

If you like, say it is a lie, I’ll coman punch you 🥴🥴
