Ecclampsia: A preventable cause of death of baby and mother

SHE WAS BROUGHT INTO the obstetric emergency ward in an unconscious state. The story was that she had earlier been advised by her doctor to go for a Caesarean Section on account of a very high blood pressure and protein in urine (a condition known as severe preeclampsia) & because she has already had one CS in the past.

This advice was given as far back as 4 days before the onset of her unconsciousness. Unfortunately someone, somewhere had claimed that he was ‘assured’ by God that she would deliver vaginally. She, with the support of her husband, clung to this assurance and went home to await the onset of labor.

She eventually went into labor 4 days later and true to the ‘prophesy’, she managed to deliver vaginally but it was a stillbirth, dead most likely because of the condition she had. That however, was the least of her problems because she went on to develop eclampsia, the bigger, more vicious ‘brother’ of preeclampsia and lapsed into unconsciousness.

Unfortunately, she developed one of the most feared complications of eclampsia – stroke from which she never recovered despite the efforts of several specialists and profuse prayers said on her behalf. She died 3 days after delivery of her dead baby.

Did God really speak to whoever advised her against medical advice? What are your views?
